Memorial Days: Is it necessary to take care of graves?

On Easter week, and especially on Holy Sunday, it is not recommended to visit the cemetery for any purpose other than burial. For this purpose there is Radonitsa, a memorial day with special traditions left over from the ancestors. This is the ninth day after Easter, Tuesday in Fomian week. On this day begin to serve litanies. Food should not be carried to the cemetery, it is better to distribute to the poor and needy.
Dates for the holiday: May 11 (Ninth day of Easter. In 2021 - May 11)
Radonitsa, or Radunitsa is a spring festival of remembrance of the dead of the eastern Slavs, which fell in different places on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday of Fomina (Radonitsa) week; in some places it was called the entire Fomina week. Feast of Radonitsa - day 9 from Easter, a day of special commemoration of the deceased, the day of the parents, on which it is customary to visit the cemetery and remember deceased relatives. This day is considered to be Easter for the deceased.
On this day after Liturgy or after the evening service there is a full funeral service, which includes the Paschal hymns. Believers visit the cemetery to pray for the dead.
The word "Radonitsa" comes from the words "clan" and "joy" and the special place of Radonitsa in the annual cycle of church holidays - immediately after Holy Week - as if obliging Christians not to deepen in grief over the death of loved ones, but rather to rejoice in their birth into another life - eternal life.
Other popular names for Radonitsa are Farewells, Parents' Week, Red Week and Radonitsa. On these days it is customary to clean the graves of relatives and friends.
